Chevy Chase is served by several Metrobus routes that link the neighborhood to downtown DC, surrounding neighborhoods, and key transit hubs. These routes vary in frequency, hours, and coverage—some run every day, others only on weekdays or during peak hours. Understanding how they work is essential for planning commutes, errands, or meetings in the city. Below are the main routes that serve our area and what they offer.
The C81 operates crosstown between Fort Totten Station and Sibley Memorial Hospital. It uses Missouri Avenue NW, Military Road NW, and Nebraska Avenue NW to provide service to Tenleytown-AU Station and American University. The C81 follows a route similar to the former D34 route but extends southwest to serve Sibley Memorial Hospital and east to serve Fort Totten Station. It also follows a route similar to the former D33 route between Tenleytown-AU Station and 16th Street NW, the former E4 route between Fort Totten Station and Military Road NW/30th Place NW, the former M4 route between Sibley Memorial Hospital and Military Road NW/30th Place NW, and the former W45 route between Tenleytown-AU Station and Military Road NW/16th Street NW.

The C85 operates crosstown between Pinehurst Circle and Foggy Bottom. It provides service to portions of Barnaby Woods, Chevy Chase, McLean Gardens, Cathedral Heights, Wesley Heights, Hillandale, Glover Park, Foxhall Village, and Georgetown. The C85 follows a route similar to the former M4 route between Pinehurst Circle and Tenleytown-AU Station.

The C87 operates crosstown between Silver Spring Station and Van Ness-UDC Station. Using 16th Street NW, Military Road NW, and Nebraska Avenue NW, it provides service to portions of Shepherd Park, Chevy Chase, and Tenleytown. The C87 follows a route similar to the former D31 route but extends north to serve Silver Spring Station and extends southeast to serve Van Ness-UDC Station. It also follows a route similar to the former D33 route between Tenleytown-AU Station and 16th Street NW, and the former W45 route between Tenleytown-AU Station and Military Road NW/16th Street NW. When schools are open, a peak-hour trip extends from Van Ness Street to Cleveland Park Station and the Mt Pleasant Terminal.

The D70 operates between the Chevy Chase Loop and Farragut Square. Using Connecticut Avenue NW, it provides service to Van Ness-UDC Station, Cleveland Park Station, Woodley Park-Zoo/Adams Morgan Station, and Dupont Circle Station, as well as the Kalorama Heights and Adams Morgan neighborhoods. The D70 follows a route similar to the former 42 route along Connecticut Avenue NW. It also follows a route similar to the former L2 route, except for the Calvert Street NW and Columbia Road NW segments, as the D70 travels entirely on Connecticut Avenue NW.
